• Lycamobile Secures National Operator License in Uganda
• Lycamobile will extend its service to cover 90% of Uganda as it invests in infrastructure to support the country’s digital growth
Lycamobile is proud to announce that it has been granted a National Telecommunication Operator license (NTO) by the Uganda Communications Commission (UCC). Lycamobile becomes the third national operator in Uganda, after MTN and Airtel.
Lycamobile launched in Uganda in January 2020 and has since grown to one of the leading telecoms operators in the country. The approval of Lycamobile’s NTO license, which was granted after due evaluation by the UCC, demonstrates the Company’s commitment to driving digital growth in Uganda through increased infrastructure investment and the deployment of value-added services across the country.
Lycamobile will now broaden its network coverage to reach 90% of Uganda’s geographical boundary within five years.
Lycamobile’s milestone in Uganda forms the first stage of the Lyca Group’s international expansion, led by the newly promoted Group CEO, Navanit Narayan. Navanit’s appointment, and Lycamobile’s continued expansion of service, comes at a decisive point in the Lyca Group’s strategy. Lyca Group plans to develop its national network and expand its value-added businesses to meet the ever-evolving demands of its increasingly digital first customer base.
Navanit Narayan, Group CEO of Lyca Group said:
“We are very proud to announce Lycamobile’s NTO license in Uganda. As our first MNO, this development for our business in Uganda is a hugely important milestone in our ongoing strategy. I would like to thank our team and all of our customers in Uganda for making this possible.”
“We look forward to growing our network in Uganda, delivering the highest quality service to every single customer as one of the country’s leading national operators.”
